The Great 2019 NHL Offseason RFA Dilemma!

Listen to “The Great 2019 NHL Offseason RFA Dilemma!” on Spreaker.

Have we talked about the RFA’s in the NHL all summer long? Yes, too much, probably.

However, the fact remains: Brayden Point, Mitch Marner, Patrik Laine and Mikko Rantanen are only a few of several without contract, just weeks out of Training Camp. Are these guys worth the money they want? Where does the skill tier break up amongst these players?

Another core player is returning to the Solar Bears this season, and (we’ll attempt) the fan-favorite “Nick’s Rink Report”.

Is this the most exciting Solar Bears Offseason yet?!

(:31) The Orlando Solar Bears have continued to solidify their player core for the upcoming season, now 8 players will be returning from last season! Is this the best OSB offseason in their v2.0 history? Bryan thinks so!

(19:15) The Bolts are currently in the waiting game to give Brayden Point his next contract, but where does Point fall on the list of RFA’s still unsigned?! Vasi got his money, and while its a big ticket contract, how will it effect the 2021/22 season?

(38:42) Ron Francis is named GM of the Seattle Franchise, but are teams really prepared for another team in the league? Also, Paul Fenton, now former GM of the Minnesota Wild runs a “How Not to Operate an NHL team” clinic. Bryan highlights his follies.

(56:55) BONUS INTERVIEW from our on-air show (Tuesdays, 6p on 969. the Game) with returning Solar Bear Dylan Fitze!

Forecasting Lightning, Todd Skirving and Clint Windsor

Listen to “Forecasting Lightning, Todd Skirving and Clint Windsor” on Spreaker.

Summer Hockey related episodes are so hard to do. The Tampa Bay Lightning haven’t made many moves thus far, and we’ll say the worst case scenario regarding Brayden Point, and the true value of a player like Yanni Gourde for the Bolts.

Kelly Cup Champion and Former Orlando Solar Bears forward Todd Skirving joins us to talk about his championship season and the experience for him in Newfoundland! It was an expansion season for the Growlers, a team that included a few former Solar Bears, as well as former Asst. Coach John Snowden!

BONUS! We haven’t recorded a podcast for a few weeks, but every week we’ve done our show Tuesdays from 6p-7p on our host station, 96.9 the Game. Solar Bears Goaltender Clint Windsor is the first Solar Bears Signing for the 19/20 Season. Our conversation with Clint covered reasons he’s on the way back to Orlando, as well as some of the current NHL’ers Clint has played with through the years!

The Tampa Bay Lightning – 10 Points Clear and 2 All Stars!

Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov were named to the Atlantic Division All Star Team for the upcoming NHL All Star activities in San Jose, but who else from the team could have been named?! Bryan and Bacon discuss the players who were snubbed, and cover Kuch being named the NHL’s 1st Star for the Month of December. Is there something negative to be pointed out in the Lightning at this time?

B – (4 and) O – L – T – S!

The Tampa Bay Lightning are enjoying a 4-0 record since our last show, and it seems Bryan may have found the key to the Lightning success this season so far! The Bolts are in the drivers seat through the first part of the season, but as the year is set to turn soon, the Playoffs grow closer, and the team has to be ready for a major benchmark…the Trade Deadline. Bryan and Bacon discuss what the team could plan to do in late February.

Tampa Bay Lightning and the dog days of…winter?

The Bolts have 2 scorers in the Top 10 in the NHL points stats, and Bacon called it! Braydon Point and Nikita Kucherov lead the way for the Lightning, who are ready to face the super-hot Buffalo Sabres after dropping a home have to Anaheim that seemed like more of a nuisance than an issue to be worried about. Also, the Bolts play goalie shuffle with their supporting cast while they await the return of Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Tampa Bay Lightning – the hole in goal?

Marty St. Louis is welcomed to the Hockey Hall of Fame. We’ll discuss the goaltending situation in Tampa Bay in light of the injury to Andrei Vasilevskiy. With the league as tight as it is right now, its important for the Lightning to stay in position, we’ll talk about how.
